The OBD (On Board Diagnostic) reader
Diagnoses vehicle issues using the same technology as a mechanic, and fits into the OBD-II port found under the dashboard of most cars.
The Motion app
Syncs with the OBD reader, so you can access maintenance information, monitor your car’s location, and more—straight from your phone.
Most cars that are model year 1996 or newer have an OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics version 2) port that the device plugs into.
Check if your car is compatible with T-Mobile SyncUP DRIVE.
(Not all cars with OBD-II ports are compatible with all the features.)
T-Mobile SyncUP DRIVE is a new way to make your car smarter. The SyncUP DRIVE device and app will track your car’s performance, health, activity and even location, providing helpful information on driving behavior, family vehicle location, preventative maintenance alerts, and instant notifications of car trouble. Plus, SyncUP DRIVE can turn your car into a Wi-Fi hotspot so you can connect up to five Wi-Fi capable devices.
SyncUP DRIVE works with most internal combustion engine vehicles manufactured for use in the United States since 1996. SyncUP DRIVE device is not compatible with electric, hybrid or diesel engines. To determine if your vehicle is compatible, check out the vehicle compatibility tool: http://my.moj.io/utility/obd_locator/vehicle-compatibility.html?brand=tmobile&device=zte&lan=en
Yes. The T-Mobile SyncUP DRIVE uses an app called Mojio Motion (Developed by Mojio), which is available for download for Android devices on Google Play and for the iPhone on the Apple App Store.
Yes! In just a few minutes, the SyncUp DRIVE app will guide you through each of the steps, including how to locate your On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port and how to install the device. Once installed, SyncUP DRIVE should start reading data from your car within 10 minutes.
The On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port is the same port that mechanics use to diagnose vehicle trouble and engine problems. It is usually located underneath the driver’s side dashboard, often within 18 inches of the steering wheel.
Yes. Each vehicle must be compatible with SyncUP DRIVE and have an OBD port.
You can connect up to five Wi-Fi capable digital devices, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.

The device, communication, and app include security protections. The SyncUP DRIVE device is a read-only device. It cannot write information to your vehicle’s computer or make changes to your vehicle’s functionality. All data communication between the device and the app occurs over a private cellular Virtual Private Network (VPN), which helps protect against unauthorized third party access to those communications. The Motion app protects your information using industry standard 128-bit encryption – the same technology used by financial institutions.
The device captures driver behavior information such as acceleration and braking, speed, and RPM. The device also reports vehicle location via GPS and can report on common vehicle issues called Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). For more information please refer to the Terms and Conditions at www.t-mobile.com/info/t-mobile-sync-up-drive-terms-and-conditions.
No. Just like your home Wi-Fi network, a password is required to connect to your SyncUP DRIVE Wi-Fi hotspot.
The SyncUP DRIVE device goes into sleep mode when your vehicle is not in use, which conserves battery drain. However, we recommend unplugging the device if you plan to park your vehicle for several weeks at a time to help avoid battery drain.
For security reasons, the SyncUP DRIVE device is locked to the T-Mobile network and only accepts legitimate T-Mobile Micro-Sim cards purchased from T-Mobile or an authorized T-Mobile dealer.
