What is T-Mobile SyncUP DRIVE?

T-Mobile SyncUP DRIVE is a new way to make your car smarter. The SyncUP DRIVE device and app will track your car’s performance, health, activity and even location, providing helpful information on driving behavior, family vehicle location, preventative maintenance alerts, and instant notifications of car trouble. Plus, SyncUP DRIVE can turn your car into a Wi-Fi hotspot so you can connect up to five Wi-Fi capable devices.

How do I know SyncUP DRIVE will work with my vehicle?

SyncUP DRIVE works with most gasoline, diesel engines and hybrid vehicles manufactured for use in the United States since 1996. The SyncUP DRIVE device is not compatible with electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Some diesel vehicles may not provide complete and accurate data regarding fuel efficiency. To determine if your vehicle is compatible, check out the vehicle compatibility tool. In addition, once the device is inserted into the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) port and the app is installed, you will receive a message on your phone that provides compatibility detail.

Is there an app that works with SyncUP DRIVE?

Yes. The T-Mobile SyncUP DRIVE uses an app called SyncUP DRIVE? (Developed by Mojio), which is available for download for Android devices on Google Play and for the iPhone on the Apple App Store.

Is SyncUP DRIVE easy to install?

Yes! In just a few minutes, the SyncUP DRIVE app will guide you through each of the steps, including how to locate your On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port and how to install the device. Once installed, SyncUP DRIVE should start reading data from your car within 10 minutes.

What is an OBD port and where is it located in my vehicle?

The On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port is the same port that mechanics use to diagnose vehicle trouble and engine problems. It is usually located underneath the driver’s side dashboard, often within 18 inches of the steering wheel.

Can I use the device in more than one vehicle?

Yes. Each vehicle must be compatible with SyncUP DRIVE and have an OBD port.

How many devices can I connect to the WiFi hotspot?

You can connect up to five Wi-Fi capable digital devices, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.

How secure is SyncUP DRIVE?

The device, communication, and app include security protections. The SyncUP DRIVE device is a read-only device. It cannot write information to your vehicle’s computer or make changes to your vehicle’s functionality. All data communication between the device and the app occurs over a private cellular Virtual Private Network (VPN), which helps protect against unauthorized third party access to those communications. The Motion app protects your information using industry standard 128-bit encryption – the same technology used by financial institutions.

What data does SyncUP DRIVE capture from my vehicle?

The device captures driver behavior information such as acceleration and braking, speed, and RPM. The device also reports vehicle location via GPS and can report on common vehicle issues called Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). What do you do with my data?

The SyncUP DRIVE device and the SyncUP DRIVE app utilize Mojio’s platform for the transmission, interpretation and storage of your data. Through the app, you can control your data, who sees it, and how it is used. Your personally identifiable data will never be sold, traded or used in a way that violates our privacy policy. Can people I don’t know connect to my SyncUP DRIVE Wi-Fi hotspot?

No. Just like your home Wi-Fi network, a password is required to connect to your SyncUP DRIVE Wi-Fi hotspot.

Will SyncUP DRIVE drain my vehicle’s battery?

The SyncUP DRIVE device goes into sleep mode when your vehicle is not in use, which conserves battery drain. However, we recommend unplugging the device if you plan to park your vehicle for several weeks at a time to help avoid battery drain.

Can I use a different SIM or cellular network with the device?

For security reasons, the SyncUP DRIVE device is locked to the T-Mobile network and only accepts legitimate T-Mobile Micro-Sim cards purchased from T-Mobile or an authorized T-Mobile dealer.

Are there limits to what is covered under roadside assistance and if so what are they?

Yes, some of the benefits have limits on incidents. Please see Allstate Motor Club for a benefit details, exclusions, and limits.

What type of vehicles are or are not covered for roadside assistance? Will Allstate’s Roadside Assistance cover my motorcycle?

First, there has to be an OBD port for the SyncUP DRIVE to be installed in. Motorcycles don’t have these and are therefore not eligible. To determine if your vehicle is compatible, check out the vehicle compatibility tool.

Do I have to be the owner of the vehicle that the SyncUP DRIVE is in to get roadside assistance?

No, if someone else owns the vehicle but has opted to provide you a SyncUP DRIVE device in that vehicle, then the vehicle is covered.

How many vehicles does SyncUP DRIVE support on one account?

SyncUP DRIVE supports a maximum of 24 vehicles per account. All vehicles can be easily accessed via the multi-vehicle selector drop-down menu on the home screen, or by tapping on “Cars” in the ‘Settings’ menu.

NOTE: For the optimal SyncUP DRIVE experience, it is strongly recommend that you only use one device per vehicle, per account. That means (1) SyncUP DRIVE device installed for every vehicle that is on your account.

Which vehicle do I see when I launch the app?

The next time you launch SyncUP DRIVE (after closing the app), you will be presented with the last vehicle that was selected. If you need to select another vehicle, simply use the drop-down vehicle selector menu or go to ‘Settings’ and choose the car from the list.

How do I add more vehicles to my SyncUP DRIVE account?

If you have purchased new SyncUP DRIVE devices and would like to install them into additional vehicles on your account, go to the ‘Settings’ menu in the app, select ‘Cars’ and then tap on ‘Add a Car’. Follow the instructions to install each of the devices.

How is this different than before? Couldn’t you have multiple SyncUP DRIVE devices on one account?

Yes, the previous version of SyncUP DRIVE could also handle multiple devices but it lacked the ability to easily switch between vehicles and you could never see all your vehicles on a map at once. With the addition of multi-vehicle management, SyncUP DRIVE customers can now get a true bird’s eye view of their family’s vehicles at a glance. For businesses, SyncUP DRIVE offers a super efficient way to quickly gauge the location, status and health of all your vehicles from.

How does the multi-vehicle map feature work?

It’s really easy. Just tap on the map from the home screen and enter full screen map mode. The vehicle that is selected will be the dominant vehicle on the map but all of the other vehicles on your account will also be shown. You can use the drop-down vehicle selector to switch vehicles or you can just tap on the vehicle you want to engage with.

How do you set up multiple geofences and notifications?

Under the ‘Settings’ menu, tap on Geofences. From there, you can create new geofences or manage existing ones that you’ve already save.

How do you pull detailed trip reports?

From the home screen, move down the screen and tap on the ‘Trip History’ card. This will take you to your account’s Trip History section. To view a more detailed trip report, tap on a specific trip.

How did customers track the location of their vehicles before this update?

This has not changed very much since the last update; mostly bug fixes.

Didn’t you have a virtual fence feature before? How is this different?

Virtual fences are now called geofences. Previously, geofences were limited to one geofence per vehicle. Geofences are now set at the account level and can be associated with one vehicle, multiple vehicles or all vehicles. You can create as many geofences as you like.

Is this update mostly focused on businesses?

This update is as helpful to the busy family as it is to small businesses. Whether you’ve got to coordinate weekend errands and school pick-ups, or you’re managing the expectations of demanding customers, the new multi-vehicle management capabilities can help you keep an eye on what matters most, all from your smartphone.

Are you adding these fleet capabilities because of demand from your business customers?

Do all vehicles need to have a SyncUP DRIVE device installed to access these new features?

Yes, every vehicle needs to have its own SyncUP DRIVE device to get the complete experience and all of the benefits.

Who is eligible for this update?

All SyncUP Drive customers are eligible for this update.

How do notifications work?

Notifications are managed on the phone in the ‘Settings’ section of the app. When a notification is set to on, every phone that is signed in with that account will receive the notification.

How do customers access this update?

SyncUP Drive customers simply need to visit their updated SyncUP DRIVE app to access these new features at no extra cost to them. Customers may download the T-Mobile SyncUP DRIVE in the app store on both Android on Google Play and for the iPhone on the Apple App Store.

Do I have to be the primary account holder to access these new benefits?

No, all of the vehicles on the account have access to these new benefits.
